boots.gif This fall, with the economy a mess, none of us are going to break our piggy banks, even if it means having a hot new wardrobe.

In comes Brooke Shields’ Healthy Upgrade Team. Brooke Shields, a legend in our time, and star of NBC’s hit show, Lipstick Jungle, heads a team of celebrity experts who can offer the insider star treatments and fall fashion tips but at half the cost. This team is made up of Stacey Griffiths, personal trainer to Brooke, Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman, and Dr. Michelle Dozier, a well-respected dentist who provides Brooke with tips on how to maintain a bright white and healthy smile. The third expert, Jeanne Yang, is the stylist to the stars, including Katie Holmes, with whom she started a clothing line.

A couple of their fall fashion tips are:

These Boots Are Made For Walkin’
>> The low ‘shoe-booty’ is perfect as we transition from summer to fall, when the weather can be unpredictable.

Feed Your Shoe Addiction
>> ‘Shoe-booties’ can upgrade a dress or jeans into an edgy fall look and also avoids the commitment of having to buy a pair of long boots, which can be expensive.

Beauty Mojo with Jojoba Oil Benefits

>> Skip the weekly manicures and do an easy up-do in minutes.
>> Keeps cuticles soft so you can skip a few weeks between manicures and save a few bucks. It's an eye makeup remover. Soak a cotton pad or ball, and swipe over your eye shadow, liner, and mascara. Not only will your eye makeup be gently and completely removed, you'll find your lashes lush and conditioned, too. It's a hair conditioner and serum. Mix a few drops into your conditioner and rinse out. You can also put a couple of drops on your palm and apply to the ends of damp hair before blow drying - a great trick for soft strands. Or if your hair is looking dull, or frizzy, a little jojoba oil on the ends will smooth out the cuticle, making it look shiny and healthy. It's been said that the Incas used to massage jojoba oil frequently into their scalps, promoting thick and lustrous hair.
Happy Friday!

If you wake up in the morning without a hangover, did you drink at all? Studies would suggest not. Recall the precedent of the tree in the forest? Or the monkeys covering their eyes?

It all comes down to: See no evil...

Anyway, as the coffee (and my brain cells) brew, to celebrate my surprisingly good health and mental clarity, I present the ultimate steal and deal: The gift of sight! (For free.)

acuve.jpg
If you want to give your glasses a rest and freshen up your look for a special occasion – log onto www.Acuvue.com/seasons/stealsanddeals to download a Free Trial Pair Certificate for 1-Day ACUVUE Moist single-use contact lenses!

I personally am not a contacts girl, but I do know a fresh new pair of lenses every day lessens the risk of buildup that can cause irritation (and I'm guessing blindness!) I'm saving your sight.

(Well, technically, ACUVUE is.)

Also, lenses are great for people who wear glasses and want to give their glasses a rest for a big event such as a hot date or late summer/early fall wedding. So, even if you don't use them normally, check it out. It's free!

According to Anne Keefe of Eclipse Spa, a sugar scrub is an inexpensive all-over body treatment that can makesugarscrub.jpg our skin irresistibly soft and sexy.

Sugar is gentler on the skin than salt, and produces glycolic acid, one of the natural alpha hydroxy acids that exfoliates the skin. She shares her own recipe for homemade sugar scrub goodness:

* 50 percent white cane sugar
* 50 percent avocado oil, coconut oil olive oil to moisten the sugar
* Small amounts of aloe Vera gel, vitamin C crystals, or anything healing that dissolves in water
* 1 or 2 drops of essential oil, if desired

Combine the ingredients in a bowl. Scoop some of the scrub onto your hand and massage gently onto your skin for a minute. Use on your entire body for the softest skin ever!
Rumor has it, Sarah Palin had a tanning bed installed in the Alaska governor's mansion several years ago...these are machines that are worth thousands of dollars. (Supposedly she paid for it with her own money though. I guess it's cash she saved from buying those pumps...)

image007.jpg
What's even more interesting is that Palin had declared May 2007 to be Skin Cancer Awareness Month in Alaska. In the press release, it read, "Skin cancer is caused, overwhelmingly, by over-exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun and from tanning beds."

As this woman may be a heartbeat away from the presidency at some point (shudder), I feel inclined to give her some advice that will cause her to not accidentally, well, perish, from artificial sunlight.

A few nights ago, I had the (awesomely fun) task of writing the iVillage Best/Worst dressed at the Emmy's article...In my research, I learned many a starlet stepped onto the red carpet for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards glowing radiantly with healthy and bronzed skin. However they did not get said tan from a tanning bed!
image009.jpg

These ladies (specifically the ones pictured here) wore custom spray tans by St. Tropez. From Dior to Versace, no outfit is complete without great skin - and these gals had a sun-kissed glimmering glow that didn't burst the bank or their future health options!

It is fast, easy, and inexpensive: The ultra fine aerosol spray delivers exceptionally smooth even color and the combination of aloe and bronzers work instantly while your tan intensifies over 3 hours. (150ml / 5oz Price: $36.00 Available at www.sttropeztan.com)

So, Sarah, while I'm not exactly a fan, I do wish you the best of skin health - think of all the new shoes you could buy with this option!
glycolic.jpgThis may just fall under the umbrella of breaking beauty news!!!

If you get a chance, take a look at this month's Allure magazine: You’ll find a skincare piece on the skin secrets of dermatologists and skincare experts of the like and they discuss the power of the chemical peel – which has turned out to be a saving grace for many people prone to serious skin problems.

The active ingredient in most chemical peels is Glycolic acid,  but only licensed aestheticians and dermatologists can administer such high levels of it; that's why they get away with charging upwards of over $200 per treatment!

There just may be an answer for us trying to save our pennies (and be beautiful), it seems as of today, you can purchase over-the-counter a bottle of Glycolic acid pads that have the full 10% (highest) level for $95 and give yourself the same treatment at home many times throughout the year, thus ultimately saving a fortune.

The product was launched by Dr. Craig Austin, a top NYC dermatologist and creator of AB Skincare www.abskincare.com, it's called AB 10% - the strongest pure and uncompounded glycolic available to the public.
I'm giving it a try...I'll see how it stands up against my pro peels!
There was a line in the Sex and the City movie about women always searching for labels or love..I'm not sure either is true (or should be).

We have all, at one point or another, convinced ourselves we needed that $150 dollar per ounce face cream. After all, if it costs THAT much, it MUST be good.

And it very well might be!  Sadly, though, you may have just blown your grocery label on something that's no better than a high-quality item waiting right in your drug store. And the truth may exist in just taking the moment to compare the labels (you give at least that much consideration to your salad dressing) - and just see what's inside, and what's not.

cerave.jpgFor instance, once you start reading the labels, you will discover the same key words appear in both the "steep" places (department stores) and the "cheap" places (drug stores). Ingredients like Ceramides, Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin are the key words you’re looking for and you'll quickly learn (to your wallet's abject horror) there may be no need to spend $52.00 (1.7 oz) on an expensive department store ceramide cream like Elizabeth Arden when you can get the same moisturizing benefits and beautiful skin results you love for much less. For instance, CeraVe Moisturizing Cream has most of the ingredients that competitive prestige ceramide brands have at a fraction of the price and in a much larger size (16 oz).

I am a huge believer that keeping your skin from drying out is just about as important as brushing your teeth and washing your hair. Wouldn't it be nice, though, to give our wallets the same consideration once in a while?
blondefacial.jpgMany NY beauty mavens are fans of Metamorphosis Day Spa's luxurious facials and body treatments. If you aren't a local - or don't have the extra cash to spend - the spa offers some advice for creating your own gorgeous results, right at home!

1. Cleanse
Dip circular cotton pads in a bowl of whole milk and massage your face with the pads. Pat face dry.
2. Tone
In a spray bottle, combine 4 ounces of water with 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Spray the lemon-water toner over your face to balance your skin.
3. Relax
(Eye Compress) Buy rose water at your local supermarket or drugstore or at Amazon.com. Pour some into a bowl. Dip cotton pads into the solution, squeeze out excess moisture, and gently press these pads over your eyelids to relax the skin.
4. Refresh
Cut out of cheesecloth an 8" x 8" square. In a bowl, mix equal parts pineapple and carrot juice and chill this mixture in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes. Wet cheesecloth square in the mixture. Place the soaked cheese cloth on your face and let it stay there for 7 minutes. Towel dry.
5. Soothe
For normal, combination or acneic skin: In a bowl, mix equal parts apple cider and vinegar. Pour the mixture into ice-cube trays and freeze in the freezer. Gently rub the cubes on your face. For dry, mature or sun-damaged skin: Pour buttermilk into ice-cube trays and freeze in the freezer. Gently rub the cubes on your face.

OVERNIGHT HEALING AND DRYING ACNE TREATMENT
In a bowl, combine 1 teaspoon each of flour, vinegar and honey. Mix into a soft paste. On your blemishes, spread the paste, leave it on overnight and wash the paste off with soap and water the next morning.

DRY-MATURE SKIN, MOISTURIZING NIGHT CREAM

In a bowl, mix 1 egg with 1 teaspoon each of honey and olive oil and 3 teaspoons of lemon juice. On your face, massage in the mixture, leave it on overnight and wash the mixture off with soap and water the next morning.

ANTI-AGE-SPOTS TREATMENT

In a bowl, combine equal parts of apple cider, vinegar and onion juice. Onto your skin that has age spots, massage the mixture.

I am loving all these at-home remedies! Do you have any you wish to share? Please post them in the comments below.
